Firebird Union are a transatlantic electronic indie band based in London and Los Angeles.

Brothers Ross and Matt Churchill blend the very best of British and American synth and guitar music, modernising the sound of their influences including Noel Gallagher, Fleet Foxes, and HAIM.

In their formative years they performed together in Cedar, part of the vibrant Watford scene alongside The Staves, Mohair, Kyla La Grange, and Lower Than Atlantis. On local stages they honed their stagecraft, perfecting a unique brand of melodic, sonically expansive existential songwriting.

After splitting up in 2008, both pursued their own paths.

Ross co-founded electronic duo Pariis Opera House, receiving support from BBC Introducing, Nemone, and Lauren Laverne at BBC 6Music. The group supported Example, Zane Lowe and Edith Bowman at U.K. club nights, soundtracking adverts, films and TV shows internationally. As well as co-writing and co-producing with Jake Gosling and Nuuxs, Ross releases solo music under the moniker Hyper Lion, making Tom Robinson’s ‘Top 25 Tracks of 2018’, while also co-producing and mixing the debut Constance LP for Lakes.

Matt released solo material and gigged in London extensively. Musical projects included fundraising for Watford charities, and releasing a collaborative EP with Roberto Cappellina from Lakes and Minnie Birch.

Firebird Union is a project decades in development, defined by an ocean separating a prolific songwriting duo. All instruments are performed and recorded by the brothers, with production and mixing taking place at their personal Admiralty Studios in London, and The Gatehouse in Los Angeles.

Matt and Ross have been writing music together all their lives in a partnership forged by the bonds only siblings have. Time and distance are no obstacle.

They always felt they could achieve more together than they had a chance to before, but now with technology, life, and industry experience behind them, they are aiming to do just that.

The Churchill brothers have unfinished business.
